Hovis, the bakers of Britain’s healthiest bread, is re-launching its Granary range in response to the growing demand from consumers for premium healthy products. With improvements across the range and two brand new loaves, each variety now includes a delicious and nutritious assortment of seeds and/or grains.
It is reputed that malted brown Granary bread can be traced back to the 15th century when the Benedictine monks of Burton Abbey discovered malted wheat tasted just as great in bread as it did in their beer. Today, the Master Maltsters at Hovis still use traditional methods to make the malted flakes that give Granary breads their distinctive nutty flavour.
Building on tradition, the four varieties in the Hovis Granary range - ‘Sunflower Granary’, ‘Country Granary’, ‘White Granary’ and ‘Granary’ - now also contain a host of other healthy ingredients. From linseeds which contain omega 3 and sunflower seeds that are high in antioxidant vitamin E, to barley that contains zinc and millet that is rich in amino acids.
Amanda Ursell, media nutritionist and spokesperson for the new Hovis Granary Range, says: “There are extra nutrients in Granary because of the presence of wholegrain including vitamin E and the super-nutrient ferulic acid which are great anti-agers for our skin, zinc for our immune system and folic acid which aids cell production and is an important B vitamin for pregnant women. Granary even provides calcium – essential for healthy bones. As a nation we don’t include enough grains and seeds in our diets so the Hovis Granary range is an ideal way of increasing our intake.”
Alan Marson, the Hovis Master Maltster says: “The sourcing, selection and combining of seeds and grains for each Granary variety is a science. The balance of each ingredient has to be perfect in order to create the best texture and taste with optimum nutrition. With the new range we hope to have created a different loaf for our consumers to indulge in everyday.”
The new Hovis Granary range is available nationwide in supermarkets and local stores and has an RSP of £1.20
