History of Hovis

The first loaf to be made with nutrient rich wheatgerm. The first to advertise on TV. The first without a crust… the history of the Hovis brand is a history of new ideas and innovations designed to bring our baking know-how to our range of white, wholemeal and wheatgerm breads.

Hovis in 2005

Hovis has always been healthy and now it’s even better - the healthiest we’ve ever made in fact. We’re already the only major bread brand free from artificial flavouring and preservatives. Now there’s more whole wheat goodness in all our white loaves and rolls, more taste for our wholemeal range and less salt in everything we make - an average of 10% reduction across our entire range. What’s more our white bread looks and tastes as good as ever. All of which means Hovis is the perfect way to get some great tasting goodness inside you and your family.

2005 marks the launch of Hovis Invisible Crust, an immediate hit with parents, who no longer need to cut the crusts off their children’s sandwiches and avoid wasting food.
