History of Hovis
The first loaf to be made with nutrient rich wheatgerm. The first to advertise on TV. The first without a crust… the history of the Hovis brand is a history of new ideas and innovations designed to bring our baking know-how to our range of white, wholemeal and wheatgerm breads.
Hovis in 1900
Cycling had become a national pastime and Hovis produced a cycle map of England and Wales. It contained a section listing suitable guest houses at which cyclists could stay and where they could be assured of Hovis bread with their meals. These guest houses could be identified by an enamel metal hanging sign in the form of a bicycle wheel with a large ‘H’ in the centre.
